Rehab Jigsaw Occupational Therapists are skilled in a range of treatments including:

Compensatory strategies to maintain independence with daily living activities

Pacing techniques for the management of pain and fatigue symptoms

Strategies for managing cognitive difficulties including memory, planning and thinking skills

Orientation strategies for people with memory loss

Joint protection techniques

Strategies to manage anxiety, stress and low mood

Hand therapy

Adaptation of leisure activities to promote participation

Personalised OT Treatment for a Fulfilling Life

Through treatment, Rehab Jigsaw Occupational Therapists enable people to develop their independence skills and personal resilience to participate more fully at home, with their family, at work, in leisure and in education. This has positive effects on feelings of self-worth and usefulness, promoting dignity and the ability to participate. All packages are bespoke to meet individual assessed needs

CASE STUDY:

Occupational Therapy Treatment

Joe, aged 27, was involved in a serious road traffic accident and was referred to Rehab Jigsaw by his family. He had sustained orthopaedic injuries and was making a good recovery from these but his family was concerned about his mental health and well-being.

Upon referral, the OT carried out a full assessment of Joe’s current functional limitations, looking at physical, psychological and environmental/social factors. The OT was able to discuss Joe’s role loss and lack of sense of purpose with him and discuss how his low mood was further impacting his functional recovery.

The OT advised Joe to see his GP. The GP prescribed medication and talking therapies for his depression.

The OT was able to continue to work with Joe over an 8-week period. The OT used practical strategies and education to develop self-management skills, focusing on recognising and proactively managing symptoms. The OT helped Joe to re-establish his everyday routine and to slowly increase the amount of activities he could undertake as his physical function and tolerances improved. When Joe felt that his symptoms were more under control, the OT worked with Joe and his employer to develop a graded return to work programme.
